NTAGGL Scholarship Award Program

January 2, 2018

Members and Associate Members

North Texas Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders (NTAGGL)

We are now accepting applications for “NTAGGL Scholarships – 2018”.   In 2017, we awarded two (2) $1,000 Scholarships to students who were working hard to better their futures by continuing their education and striving for a degree in their chosen field of study.

Over the last few years, we have worked hard to create and organize the NTAGGL Scholarship Award Program. Through your financial assistance, we have raised enough money to fully endow the North Texas Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders Endowment (Endowment) with First Command Educational Foundation (FCEF). FCEF has been providing scholarships in the U.S since 1983 and has awarded over $3.7 million dollars in scholarships to over 2,000 students. The Foundation awards scholarships to students all over the nation, averaging approximately $175,000 per year for higher education. All funds generated from the Endowment, as well as other specified funds raised throughout the year, will be used for the NTAGGL Scholarships.

The Endowment will allow NTAGGL to grant several scholarships each year to eligible students that reside in one of the 72 counties of the SBA District that we service in North Texas. NTAGGL’s application awards are for those seeking degrees in “Social Sciences, Business Degrees, Banking/Finance Degrees, or any other degree plan at a two or four-year college or university for a bachelors or graduate program.” Award recipients are required to take an on-line course (free) offered by First Command Educational Foundation of “BASIC$4ALL”, a course that offers a broad range of everyday ‘need to know financial information’ for most people and families. The course covers charge accounts, checkbook management, understanding credit, loans, rights and responsibilities, buying stocks and investments, retirement, insurance and bankruptcy.   The above course is required prior to submitting an application for scholarship assistance. The course is easily accessible on-line, and has proven to be of great value to all scholarship recipients who have completed the course.

Our Partnership with FCEF offers many benefits, including the funding process. The process involves our five Selection Committee Members, carefully chosen by the Scholarship Committee. The Selection Committee will review and score each application using the review/scoring system outlined by NTAGGL. We will also provide additional credit to those who qualify under ‘Low to Moderate Income Families’, as verified through the Financial Aid Department of their college or university.

Thanks to the members of NTAGGL and the NTAGGL Scholarship Committee, we will continue awarding scholarships for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Gregory Dunn
